Abstract
Introduction: Hypertension is a chronic disease in the elderly groups that requires a special sustainable diet management pattern. This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge and diet adherence for elder groups who suffered with highly blood pressure. Method: The research used a cross sectional design with a correlational approach using chi-square analysis. A sample of 30 elderly people was selected using the total sampling method. Result and analysis: There was a significant correlation between the elder’s knowledge and adherence to a special hypertension diet (p = 0.003). The majority of the elderly have knowledge about hypertension in the good and sufficient range, with the adherence to a special diet for high blood pressure at moderate and high levels. Discussion: The provision of health education and promotion related to the characteristics of the elder population is needed to increasing the knowledge and diet adherence among these vurnerable groups.
