Abstract
Mass media tends to present criminal news surprisingly. So many violations occur in reporting criminality, especially concerning the journalistic code of ethics (KEJ). This study aims to determine the application of KEJ in criminal reporting on Radar Malang and Surya Malang. The theory we use refers to KEJ, namely, accuracy, objectivity, balancing, clarity, and truth. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The selection of the two media is because it is among the largest mass media in Malang, and both present criminal news every day. The results of this study are that most of the criminal news in Radar Malang is not under the journalistic code of ethics, even though a small portion has applied clarity and actuality well. The same thing happened to Surya Malang criminal news, more news that did not meet the provisions in the KEJ compared to the news that was under the KEJ Keywords: Criminal News, News Quality, Journalistic Code of Ethics, Radar Malang, Surya Malang
